The Story

Sometime in April of 2004, I got a kind letter from the current copyright holders of the Family Theater episode productions, asking me not to provide free downloads of the MP3s anymore. I of course obliged, not wanting to cause anyone any trouble, but was saddened that I couldn't provide the archives anymore. It was my understanding that the copyright had expired and the works had fallen into public domain, as most old time radio has.

I wish I could remember the name of the person who sent me the e-mail, but I have this bad habit of cleaning out my computer routinely and forgetting to backup my e-mails, so it's been lost. I remember he was very nice, since we exchanged a few e-mails, and he expressed plans to sell the episodes online. I lost the website with the e-mail, too, so I can't remember where they are at. I'll start checking again to see if I can find them.

In the meantime, I have an idea...

The Idea

I know that a lot of people (myself included) would like to somehow still be able to enjoy the old time radio shows. I know that the man who contacted me had plans to sell them on cassette tapes, a few epsiodes at a time I believe, and while that may work, I have an idea too.

What I'm hoping to do is be able to license the old time radio shows, and sell them on an individual basis for downloads, similar to the way iTunes sells songs online. I think that even at a small price of maybe $.99 per episode, people would be willing to buy them. But, I'm not sure -- that's why I'm posting this page.

The Backers

While I try to locate the owners of the copyright of the Family Theater episodes, I need some support from the fans to help my appeal. If you would like to see them available again as a weekly download, even if it meant paying for them, please send me an e-mail. I'm hoping to gather enough of them that I can show the owners that there is enough support for the show and desire to have them available again from a lot of people.

I've setup a special e-mail account just for the letters -- please send them to family@nephi.org and express what you like about the series, and that you'd like to see them again.

Thanks in advance for your help with getting this great series back online again and available to the public! I'll keep everyone posted right here on our progress.

May God bless us in our endeavors.

Thanks,

Steve Dibb
